SPACE EDUCATORS' 3-D WORLDS
This site is designed using VRML, a three-dimensional
modelling language which allows you to interact
with objects in 3 dimensional space. For a free VRML player, try the Cortona VRML client by clicking
here. Follow the
instructions for downloading and installing the 3-D VRML player.
THREE DIMENSION WORLDS OF SPACE EXPLORATION:
Click on the desired hot text item which downloads a 3-D space educators' world to your computer for exploration. (Note:
A VRML plug-in player for VRML version 1.0 is required to view the space world.)
1. A likeness of a world-famed robot in space. (45.2K)
Why doesn't the above robot (item 1.) require a space suit? What does this tell you about
the usefulness of robots in space?
2. Space Shuttle Orbiter (992K)
What is missing in the 3D model of the NASA space shuttle (item 2.) which is essential
for the vehicle to survive reentry?
3. Space Station Mir (357K)
4. Sci-Fi Space Station (243K)
Compare the likeness of a famous television science fiction space
station (item 4.) with the Russian space station (item 5.) Mir. What is a major
difference based on your review of the structure of each space station? List what
is alike about the stations and what is different.
5. Shuttle 3D Model (104K)
6. Sci-Fi star shuttle (233K)
Compare the 3D model of the NASA shuttle (item 5.) with the star
craft of science fiction fame. (item 6.) What are the differences in the respective
propulsion systems? What other differences are there based on viewing
the VRML scenes? What similaries exist between the two space vehicles?
7. Mars Pathfinder robot Sojourner VRML model. Click
here for more information about the "little robot that could" go where
no human went before.
